The Digital Content Library (DCL) has established guidelines for scanning protocols and metadata capture that are continually reviewed and updated to be consistent with national standards. The database structure will enable departments and units to cooperate and combine their collections via a centralized database. The individual needs of each collection have been taken into consideration so that it fits within the framework of the larger teaching collection. Consistency among the contributors must be stressed so that the result is a Digital Content Library that is truly useful for all areas of the University. The database will incorporate the data standards recommended by the Visual Resources Association, the international organization of image media professionals. In addition to data standards, media professionals across the University have been consulted in order to implement the latest in digital media capture and delivery. Materials will be captured or migrated to digital format at a level that ensures longevity and use over time. Derivative sizes will be produced and used where appropriate. CLA-OIT is managing the archiving of the files with appropriate back-up and security to protect and secure a long life for these files.
